You are invited to go behind the scenes to see how our motorhomes are brought to life. Your tour guide will take you through each stage of the manufacturing process, explaining how all the pieces come together to create a Thor Motor Coach motorhome. If you are planning to tour our facilities you must be 7 years of age or older and, for your safety, you must wear closed-toe shoes and safety glasses, which will be provided to you.ca.gov Photographs and videos inside the factory are strictly prohibited. Also, no pets are allowed. We ask that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour in order to complete a short waiver. The tour is usually about an hour. For tours at Plant 650 and 750, please check-in with Security. Limited tours are held during the holidays, but tours are always closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving including the Friday after, and Christmas Day.

Nowadays many holidaymakers are opting to go on a motorhome holiday rather than stay in a typical hotel. It is becoming a popular way to travel and a fun way to zip around. There are numerous great campsites around that cater to families, singles and couples allowing you to meet other like-minded travellers along the way. You will wake up everyday to a different view, meet a wide range of personalities and do and see something different each day. One day you can wake up to the sound of the sea, another to the stunning view of rolling hills and yet another day being surrounded by forest. The choice is up to you. As mentioned before, there is a plethora of motorhomes to choose from. This makes it very easy to tour as a group. Not only will you have the space but also the privacy. When you stop you can enjoy a picnic or a campfire together or even a scenic hike. Motorhomes can accommodate as many as eight people, or hire more than one vehicle for even more space and privacy. It really depends on whether you like structure or serendipity. We're in the latter category. Years ago we took a Tracks to Adventure caravan through Mexico's Copper Canyon (no longer available) and we had a great time on it. We met some people on that caravan who are still friends many years later. But, we've also gone to Alaska twice, Newfoundland twice, and the Maritimes several times - all on our own. They were all wonderful trips. We went where we felt like going that day and stopped when and where we felt like that night. I guess we don't like to live by other people's schedules.


We prefer to go in our motorhome to the various destinations and find a campground there so we can enjoy that destination. For example, in Newfoundland we went to the northwestern corner where the Vikings had a settlement. We took the motorhome up there and stayed nearby, exploring L'Anse Meadows, St. Anthony's, and other nearby places. By contrast, we heard about one tour where the people parked their RVs at Rocky Harbour and then took a one-day bus trip north to L'Anse Meadows (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and back. That's several hundred miles - in one day! Not my idea of fun.


We spent an entire day at L'Anse Meadows, but a bus tour like that would allow only an hour or two. I guess I feel caravans allow you to see the highlights but there's no time for more in-depth exploring. If I'm going to spend all that time and money to visit a place like that, I want the time to really see it. On our first trip to Newfoundland we changed our return ferry a couple of times because we were having such a good time. Couldn't have done that on a caravan. On the other hand, for someone who has health issues, there's safety in numbers as the saying goes. For someone like that, a caravan might provide peace of mind which has value in and of itself. I can also see a single person joining a caravan just to have the company and people with whom to share the experience. And then there's where you're visiting. Canada is a safe place to go, but there are other places where it's safer to be with a caravan. Whichever method you choose, I know you'll have a great time. There's much to see and do up there so prepare to have a good trip.

First up on the Alaska RV trip itinerary is Denali National Park. If you’re planning a trip to the so-called Last Frontier, it’s almost certain you came for the views and, at 6 million acres, there’s no shortage of sights to see within Denali.
